Premises Identification

Welcome to the B.C. Premises Identification Program

    Background

Premises Identification (ID), one of the pillars of livestock traceability, links livestock and poultry to geographic locations. The British Columbia (B.C.) Premises ID Program gathers information about the location of animals, the types of animals at each location and how to contact individuals responsible for the health of those animals quickly in the event of an emergency.

Premises ID is an important tool for protecting the health and safety of your animals. In the event of an emergency, premises ID information improves our ability to rapidly notify animal owners, contain animal disease outbreaks and more effectively respond to natural disasters like floods or fires.

A premises is any parcel of land where animals are kept, assembled or disposed of. Types of premises registered with the program are wide-ranging; from small-scale or hobby farms with a few animals to large commingling sites such as feedlots, auction yards and abattoirs.

On July 1, 2022 Premises ID Regulation came into effect. Registration is now mandatory for poultry and livestock owners and commingling site operators in BC.
